Self-Love - Worth It ! Everyone wants to be loved. Everyone wants to be cared for. There are always expectations from our near and dear ones and from all important relationships in our life, to provide us with this very important ingredient to enable us to feel worthy and whole. Yes! that’s true; But how many people can truly say that they love themselves? How many give priority to their lives? Self-love is often mistaken for narcissism. This is a long-standing myth that has been reinforced over the centuries. But self-love is not putting yourself first at the expense of others emotional needs. It’s not about always having things your way. Self-love simply means having a high regard for your own well-being and happiness. It means taking care of your own needs and not sacrificing your well-being to please others; not settling for less than you deserve. It is in essence, knowledge of yourself in the true sense of the word. It is all about accepting oneself, understanding your value system, your expectations in life, your goals, your strengths. Self-love simply means to appreciate yourself, which in turn will motivate you to achieve your goals. If you truly love yourselves you will ensure that you take care of yourself – physically and emotionally. And believe me – Self-love is worth it! Self-love helps to reinforce self-confidence, to understand more about oneself. It makes one compassionate towards life’s struggles that one has been confronted with and adds meaning to one’s life. So how do we work on loving one self. Make a list of things you want to hear from others, things you want others to complement you for. You will find that what you most want to hear from others is what you most need to tell yourself. Make list of positive self-affirmations, use sticky notes in your diary, in your bedroom to motivate yourself. Learn to forgive yourself. Don’t be too harsh to yourself. It is ok to make mistakes, but remember, “you are not a mistake.” Mistakes are not stumbling blocks but learning experiences. Let us begin to accept these lapses and see what we can learn from them. Look at the mirror today each day appreciate yourself. Stay happy and spread the happiness.
